December 2018 - Wirral Branch celebrates the award of 3 x Local Authority Contracts
Now that we have briefed our teams, Professional Carers wanted
to share with you all some great news ?
Following a recent Local Authority re-tender
by Wirral Borough Council, we are thrilled to announce that we have been successful in the award of not just one, but three separate 'Care and Support at Home' contracts across Wallasey [including
Moreton], West Wirral and Birkenhead.
This contract, commencing in April 2019 involves
a select group of providers to deliver community services to the residents of Wirral including Domiciliary Care, Reablement, End of Life and Health Related Tasks.
September 2018 - WOW - We have raised over £2000 for the Alzheimers Society!
The Professional Carers head office team completed their night time 'Memory Walk' on 29/09/2018 helping to raise funds for the Alzheimer Society.
This event, held at Aintree Race Course, involved the team walking arm in arm, step by step to help raise money for a World without Dementia. Around 225,000 people
develop dementia every year - so this charity is close to our hearts! During the months of September and October Memory walks are taking places across England, Wales and Norther Ireland. We are proud
to have taken part in this and despite it being very cold, wet and dark - we knew it was for a great cause!
Having totalled up the final sponsorships and donations from our 20th Year Celebration raffle, plus our donations towards the walk - we are thrilled to announce that
we have raised a total of £2119.40.

September 2018 - Professional Carers celebrates its 20th Year Anniversary!
In September 1998 Professional Carers Wirral was officially opened by the Mayor of Wirral in a small office located on
The company was set up by our current
Managing Director Julie Harrison, who was a woman on a mission to provide High Quality Home Care to the people of Wirral.
Julie, once a Carer herself, recognised a
gap in the market for skilled, knowledgeable and Professional Staff who could pass the ‘Mum Test’ and give nothing but high quality care and compassion for those residents living in
Over the years the company has gone from
strength to strength, providing employment to over 100+ staff members and offering services to 250+ individuals requiring support and care. In the last 20 years a lot has changed, the company is
now also managed by Julies children Carly and Gary –making it a real family affair!
Carly Peckham is the Registered Manager of Care Services, whilst her brother Gary Nagle is the companies
Director of Operations who oversees the businesses daily operations for both the Wirral and the Scotland sites. Expansion of the business over the last three years has also meant a relocation of
our head office, and the opening of a dedicated Training Centre for our Care Teams.
To mark this event on 13/09/2018 Professional Carers held a special celebration to recognise this great
achievement. We invited out Service Users, their Carers, our employees and our friends and family to get together for some cake, buffet, drinks and dancing! We were also lucky enough to have a live
Dementia Friendly Band, known as the 'Home Birds'. This was a fantastic event and the turn out was overwhelming. We also had a raffle and rasied over £1100 towards the Alzheimers Society! Sadly, not
all of our clients could make it, so we also made the effort to take the party to them - dropping off cake and raffle prizes to cheer up their day!

May 2018 - Mental Health Awareness Week
During 14th - 20th May 2018 it is Mental
Health Awareness Week - Research has shown that two thirds of us experience a mental health problem in our lifetimes, and stress is a key factor in this. By tackling stress, we can go a long way to
tackle mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and, in some instances, self-harm and suicide.
Simply talking about and sharing your worries,
concerns and stress should be an essential part of looking after ourselves, preventing bigger issues to develop. But although it sounds simple - its often hard to do!
Why not consider asking a friend, colleague or acquaintance how they are feeling today - you could be making a big difference by doing so.

Did you know the World Health Organisation is this year focusing on 'Good Hand
There is a simple yet effective way to prevent infections. Cleaning your
hands can prevent the spread of germs, including those that are resistant to antibiotics and are becoming difficult, if not impossible, to treat.
On average, healthcare professionals clean their hands less than half of the
times they should. On any given day, about one in 25 people in receipt of support has at least one healthcare-associated infection.
Remember to wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, using aprons and gloves were appropriate. Hand sanitiser is also
available from our local offices for use in the field by our staff.

Congratulations to the following staff who have been successful in a recruitment drive to extend our existing Office Operations Team in Wirral:
Lindsey Stowell Smith (pictured below), currently a Carer from our Wallasey team has been successful in an internal promotion to Field Supervisor. Lindsey has many years
experience in the Heath and Social Care Industry previously working as a Social Worker for Wirral Borough Council - she excelled in the recruitment and selection
process and stood out from the large number of applicants interviewed. Lindsey’s new role will involve the supervision and support of our care workers across Wirral and she will be assisted by the
existing Field Supervision team.
Pauline West re-joins us following a break in her employment with Professional Carers and has been recruited to fill a temporary post as a
Review and Assessment Coordinator. Pauline, once a bank Carer for the company holds many years experience in the NHS as a Nurse and Trainer, specialising in Person Centred Care.
Two great additions to our growing
team who bring a wealth of experience and specialist knowledge. I am sure you will join us in wishing them good luck as they embark on their new and challenging roles - Well done

January 2018 - Professional Carers opens up its dedicated Training Centre in Wallasey
The year 2018 has seen us kick off with the opening of our new,
dedicated Training Centre located two doors down next to our Head Office in Wallasey, Wirral.
Business Manager Gary Nagle stated 'Here at Professional Carers we focus on providing skilled and
knowledgeable staff to complete the role of care worker to the highest of standards - opening a dedicated training centre will build on our excellent induction programme we already have, which is the
first part of a community care workers training journey. We are thrilled with this latest development and I hope this shows our commitment to continually invest and improve our services available to
the local community and our partners'.
- A mock living room, bathroom and bedroom enabling us to provide realistic scenario based training to care staff during induction and refresher training.
- Access to training aids and
equipment for practical use and demonstrations.
- Dedicated E-learning
- A resource centre with computer access for those studying and completing QCF (NVQ) qualifications, the Care Certificate and Skills for Care accreditation’s.

January 2018 - Professional Carers introduces mobile devices to all its care staff
Today commences the role out of our Community Care Staff Mobile Phones
The use of personal issue phones will improve on the existing way we monitor
our services and provide real time information to our care staff in the field and our managers, providing essential information and updates.
Helen, one of our Community Care Supervisors in Wirral is the first to
receive her mobile. We aren't sure from her face though whether this is a look of excitement or fear!!

October 2017 - Stay Well this Winter
In support of the ‘Stay Well This Winter’
Campaign we issue all our staff with personal protective equipment to enable them to complete their duties and protect our service users from the spread of infection. This includes gloves and aprons.
More recently we have also provided all our teams with free flu abs, provided in partnership with the NHS.
Flu is a common infectious viral infection
spread by coughs and sneezes. It can be unpleasant, but you'll usually begin to feel better in about a week. Flu can be caught all year round, not just at winter. If your otherwise fit and healthy,
guidance from the NHS is to rest at home, keep warm and drink plenty of water to avoid dehyfration.
You should consider visiting your GP if
you're at higher risk of becoming ill. These people include those over 65, pregnant, have lung, kidney liver or neurological disease, have diabetes or have a weakened immune

September 2017 - Latest Service User Annual Survey Report
Each year Professional Carers conducts a satisfaction survey of the service users, relatives and representatives of Professional
Carers current service users.
We randomly selected one hundred different service users out of all those receiving care and support from the company. The
surveys that we received back provided some very positive results. Professional Carers has been established with a quality-orientated approach to the business and our main aim is to provide the
highest quality care, taking into account the needs and wishes of each service user.
Each year we feedback these results to our service users, their relatives and representatives and use this information to help us
improve our service delivery.
A copy of the report can be found below. As a thank you to our staff who receieved a mention in the surveys, we provided each one
of them an individual gift on behalf of the management as recognition for their continued hard work. We understand every one of our employee's work tirelessly to provide high standards of care,
enabling Professional Carers to provide high quality care services - so thank you to you all.

Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the

Carers are commited to spreading the word about the impact dementia has to our service users training our staff accordingly. We are committed in providing a positive difference to people living with dementia in the community which is why we are

We all have a sense of when we are mentally and physically well. But sometimes we need extra support or a gentle nudge to look after ourselves so that we keep that way.
By adopting the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing' you can increase your life expectancy by up to 7.5 years. With one in four people today experiencing mental distress during their lifetime, there’s never been
a better time for you to take responsibility for maintaining good health and wellbeing.
Thoughout the summer months in 2017 Professional Carers will be running a series of events to promote wellbeing, with the first principle of 'Connect' being our focus
this month. We feel it is important to connect with the people around you. With family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. At home, work, school or in your local community. Think of these as the
cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Building these connections with support and enrich you every day.
On Wednesday 24th May 2017 and Friday 26th May 2017 we invited our service users, care givers and staff to attend our offices in Wirral and South Queensferry for a get
together consiting of cake, coffee and a good old chin wag and the opportunity to reminisce about the good old days! This was a fantastic opportunity to get our service users and their care givers
out of the normal daily routine, offering a sense of fufilment and enjoyment.

'Dying Matters' Awareness Week - 08th - 14th May 2017
"Every death affects people differently and we’re often too polite to ask for help, or don’t offer it for fear of saying the wrong thing. But a
family or a community dealing with loss needs help."
Dying Matters Awareness Week 2017 focuses on the topic "What Can You Do?" This aims to expand on
conversation about dying, death and bereavement and get people actively planning and helping those who may need extra support. Professional Carers is rasising awareness of this important matter and
is asking you to consider what you can do to support one another during these difficult times.

March 2017 - 'Dementia Friendly' viewings at our local cinema in New Brighton
The Light Cinema in New Brighton is showing dementia friendly films throughout the year with the last dementia friendly film 'Kiss Me Kate' being shown on Valentine's Day, 14 February 2017. The next
film, 'Meet me in St Louis' will be on Tuesday 14/03/2017 at 1.15pm,
Afternoon tea will be served on arrival at 12.30pm, courtesy of Iceland Foods. There
are no ads or trailers so the film starts promptly; lights will be left on low and customers are welcome to move around as necessary. Age UK Wirral will also be there to help, advice and
support at the event. Tickets cost £5 (including afternoon tea) with free admission for carers. The screen is on the ground floor close to all facilities and there wil be a 20 intermission with

March 2017 - Stroke advice and Guidance
Public Health England has relaunched the "Act FAST" stroke campaign,
working closely with the Stroke Association. This aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of stroke and encourage people who recognise any single one of the symptoms of stroke, in themselves or others, to call 999
immediately. This is important for people who are more likely to experience a stroke including people with medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and atrial
fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). The campaign is built around the 'Act F.A.S.T.' (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) acronym. For more information visit www.nhs.uk/ActFast

November 2016 - Be sure to stay warm this winter!
With the cold weather already here, it is important to keep yourself warm and cosy during the winter months.
- If you have reduced mobility, are 65 or over, or have a health condition such as heart or
lung disease, you should heat your home to at least 18C. It's a good idea to keep your bedroom at this temperature all night if you can. During the day you may prefer your living room to be
slightly warmer. Make sure you wear enough clothes to stay warm.
- If you're under 65 and healthy and active, you can safely have your house cooler than 18C,
if you're comfortable.
- You can also use a hot water bottle or electric blanket (but not both at the same time) to
keep warm while you're in bed.
- Food is a vital source of energy, which helps keep your body warm. Try to make sure that you
have hot meals and drinks regularly throughout the day and keep active in the home if you can.
- Wrap up warm, inside and out.
Wear lots of thin layers - clothes made from cotton, wool or fleecy fibres are particularly good and help to maintain body heat. Wear shoes with a good grip to prevent slips and falls when
walking outside. If possible, stay inside during a cold period if you have heart or respiratory problems.

July 2016 - E-Learning and Development Suite
Professional Carers we understand the importance of providing skilled and knowledgeable staff. At our Wirral branch we have recently opened our E-learning & development suite which enables our
staff to refresh their exisiting skills on a regular basis, in conjunction with our annual training programme. E-Learning is an effective tool and provides co-ordinators
the flexibility to schedule in training in between appointments. Each E-Learning course can be tailor made for the individual, allowing the management team the opportunity to offer
additional training to those who require further development in a specific area of Health and Social Care. As well as this our new suite offers those staff completing their QCF Level 2 and 3 in
Health and Social Care access to a computer, the internet, and a variety of sources such as textbooks and educational guidance.
July 2016 - Scotland Branch Celebrates its 1 Year Anniversary
Professional Carers Scotland branch celebrated its first anniversary on 28/07/2016, when it was officially registered with the Care Inspectorate exactly a year ago.
The staff have worked tirelessly to promote the business and build a good reputation and their hard work has paid off, evidenced following the results of their first inspection by the Care
Inspectorate. During the unannounced inspection carried out over 3 days in July 2016, the Care Inspectorate visited service users, worked with staff and spent a

June 2016 - Professional Carer Linda Greenberg - Award Winner of 'Outstanding Contribution to Care'
Professional Carers is pleased to announce that our very own Linda Greenberg was nominated by the company for an award of 'Outstanding
Contribution to Care' - who then went on to win at the event.
Linda has been a domiciliary carer with Professional Carers for over 16 years and throughout this time she has been a dedicated, loyal
and caring individual. Over the years Linda has received recognition from all of her service users which has been highlighted during our annual service user surveys. In our latest survey, one service
user commented 'I have a wonderful carer named Linda, she makes my life so much easier, I would give her a medal as she really deserves it' whilst another wrote 'the carer that stands out to us is
Linda Greenberg, she is very professional and shows empathy at all times. She goes above and beyond without asking her, she is a diamond and I am glad we have her'.
As a company we are extremely proud of our staff and we wish to thank Linda for her hard work, for always smiling and for never
complaining. It is not very often we get to recognise staff in this way 'just for doing their job' – so we believe this is well and truly deserved.
